crap weather! Day 1, 18.09.2008

Here we go! In the morning I was already thrown at just after 6 by my hosts Christian and Anita out of bed, but that fits quite well the equipment one last time durchzuchecken. All together - very good. The food this time take up more space and weight as the last tour, but the equipment is lighter summer - kg of water and food for 6 days good 21st Everything in packaging, the first card in the right breast pocket of the jacket, batteries, controlled by GPS, camera batteries tested again - can go!

A view from the window does not bode well, gray sky, constant rain. A quick glance at the weather report, rain today, the next day changing weather. Temperatures just above 10 ° C. Bad weather!

two hours until the bus comes to Ullapool. So had breakfast alone cereal, enjoyed in the village shop or a bottle of delicious chocolate Friji. Finally comes the bus, now it is pouring rain and I hope it looks better on the west coast. In the good hour drive, you pass through the gray clouds in the Highlands, straight across the island.

climb arrived at the starting point and I put in the ferry terminal to the first full rain gear. The protective foil from the backpack was now have a bad impression, but you had to look so first. The first kilometer I went straight through the beautiful Ullapool, unfortunately, the sidewalks because of the time and the weather almost folded. Therefore, it went straight to the range - a road that connects the Ullapool River up to the hole Achall.

muddy path up to the hole Achill

We went on the Ullapool River, along a number of farm-Estates at Loch Achill along. The scenery was beautiful, but the weather was still much to be desired - Continuous rain!

Looking back over Loch Achill

came to meet me now and even cars, but the area was secluded and narrow valley. To my right flows the Ullapool River, and to my left to rise high cliffs. The slopes are too steep and slow the Black Ice Trekking poles are used for the first time. And how comfortable it is with four legs at once is:)

Follow the road ...

After a good 10 kilometers, the last farm left behind me as well. Now it goes up out of the hole at Daimh, past the Bothy "Knockdamph" - kilometer 18th Today one of the last day on which the Bothy is open, as soon begins again the hunting season, and hundreds of tourists hunting kill each other by the excessively large game animals. However, it is just 15:00 - too early for storage. So on - there is finally little challenges!

Like a river crossing

The river crossing was no problem. Although the stream carried much more water than other travel reports and pictures but the place was wide and flat - the current was too weak. So from boots, sandals and through!

was again passed some time now and the fatigue also attacked slowly around. Only 3 km over a way to sheep pastures to the planned storage place.

Attention Schafköttel!

The planned storage place, the ruins of the Bothy "Duag Bridge" surprised me a brand new, immaculately tended cottage. The Bothy was rebuilt and was called "The School House" - perfect! So I made dinner cooked and relaxed.

Scotland September 2008

I spent the night alone, there were no other visitors. Outside it was raining from time to time, there was fresh water in abundance in the vicinity - that is really perfect conditions for a restful night. The

I had then too :-)
